    Aaron's Tech Tips

    General Tips

Anyone that has a computer at one time or other has received an error of some sort. If you receive and error that is related to the Internet (ex. Dialing up the Internet, surfing the Web or checking your email) and you are thinking of calling tech support, please do these things before you call.
    1. Reboot your computer at least once. Sometimes just turning your computer off and back on will solve the problem.
    2. Write the entire error message down. When tech support gets you on the phone they want to be able to hear the whole message.
    3. Make sure you have your computer on and you are in front of it ready to do whatever the tech support people tell you to do. None of us can be helpful if you are not at your computer.

Remember that we outsource our tech support, so when you talk with someone you are not talking to a local person. They don't have access to any of our servers. If you need tech support you may call them 24 hours a day 7 days a week at: 1-888-808-7394.

    Modem / Phone Line Problems

A common error that has occurred over the summer is "No Dial Tone". When you try and dial into the Internet and the modem doesn't detect a dial tone you will get this message.

The first thing you need to check is the phone jack in the wall. The easiest way to do this is to unplug your modem cable and plug a phone onto it, if you hear a dial tone then it would seem to be okay.

The next thing to check is the line cord from the wall to your computer. Again the easiest way to check it is with a phone, plug on end in the wall and the other end in the phone and listen for a dial tone.

The last thing you need to check is to make sure that you have the line cord plugged into the correct port on the modem. Usually there will be two ports on a modem, one that says PHONE and one that says LINE. Your line cord must be plugged into the one that says LINE.

At this point if everything checks out okay then the only thing left that could possibly be causing problems is the modem itself. We would recommend that the modem be replaced. Please call our office before purchasing another modem to find out what we recommend for optimum performance with our servers.
